OpenAI launches GPT-6.1 Terra for computer use and coding
AI Assisted
OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Terra on October 26, 2026. The model targets visual understanding, computer use, writing and coding, and is available through the API and eligible Codex and ChatGPT Work plans. This article was published October 27.
What changed
OpenAI describes Terra as a faster, lower-cost model for tasks that involve reading screens and working across applications. That makes it relevant to agents handling forms, documents and visual material, as well as developers building workflows around coding tools.
Its announcement reports a 50.3% score at maximum reasoning effort on Terminal-Bench 4.0, versus 21.5% for GPT-5.6 Terra. These are OpenAI’s reported evaluation results, not AiBrainWorX measurements; benchmark scores do not guarantee a result on a particular codebase.
Availability and cost
OpenAI says the model is available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users in Codex and ChatGPT Work, and in the API as gpt-6.1-terra. Its announced standard API rates are $1 per million input tokens, $0.05 per million cached input tokens and $5 per million output tokens. Check OpenAI’s model documentation for current access and terms.
Local AI note: this is a hosted OpenAI model, not a downloadable local-weight release. We have not independently benchmarked this version. Computer-control features still need clear permissions and review.
