Tencent’s Hy-SimulMT explores simultaneous Chinese–English translation

The model translates speech to text as it arrives; spoken output requires a separate text-to-speech component.

Translation need not wait until a speaker finishes an entire recording. Tencent’s Hy-SimulMT-30B-A3B, released in October, focuses on simultaneous Chinese–English speech translation. It produces translated text while processing speech in segments.

The model card lists Apache 2.0 for this specific release. Check the exact files, dependencies and terms before deploying it, particularly when combining it with other models or services. The project describes supported serving options in its repository.

Text is not yet a spoken answer

A system that speaks the translation needs a separate text-to-speech component. If a workflow uses voice cloning, it also needs appropriate consent and clear controls; the translation model by itself does not supply those safeguards.

Simultaneous translation involves a tradeoff between waiting for more context and responding quickly. Publisher-reported results are useful for understanding the intended design, but we have not tested latency, translation quality or hardware fit. In particular, the model name is not proof that it will run comfortably on a 12 GB GPU.
